Jersey Fouls is our ongoing exploration of the rules and etiquette for proper hockey jersey creation and exhibition. If you spot what you think may be a foul in your arena, email a photo to us at*[email protected]*for inclusion in a future installment.
Please recall last season, when Brandon Manning of the Philadelphia Flyers*and Connor McDavid of the Edmonton Oilers got tangled up and saw the young Oilers star crash into the end boards, breaking his collarbone.
While the Nov. 2015 was seen as an accident, a game between the two in Dec. 2016 made McDavid change his mind about the incident.
“I thought it was one of the classless things I’ve ever seen on the ice,” McDavid said after the game. “He said some things and our guys responded accordingly. We can put the whole ‘he did it on purpose’ thing to rest because what he said out there kind of confirmed that. Shows the guy he is the way he doesn’t step up and fight some of our guys.”
Ouch!
The two met again on Thursday night in Edmonton, and as you can see from the Jersey Foul above, Manning had the support of one extraordinarily classy Flyers fan at the arena whose voice must still be hoarse from cheering Michael Irvin’s broken leg.
A “COLLAR MCBROKEN” jersey. A grown man spent money on this. To troll a player in a different conference, that his team sees twice a year. Wow.
Manning, meanwhile, was speared by Lucic:

And answered the bell against Patrick Maroon:

Was he trying to put the claw hold on him at the end?
