Jason Spezza of the Dallas Stars controls the puck against Adam Lowry of the Winnipeg Jets in the first period at American Airlines Center on February 2, 2017 in Dallas, Texas. (Getty Images) Dallas Stars forward Jason Spezza could be out for the foreseeable future after receiving a thunderous check from Winnipeg Jets forward Adam Lowry in their Thursday game.
Early in the third period of Winnipeg’s 4-3 win, Spezza cut through the neutral zone with a head of steam with the puck before Lowry stepped up and dropped him to the ice.

Dallas coach Lindy Ruff didn’t have specifics on Spezza’s issue, but said the center could be out for a while.
“He’s going to miss some time. It’s probably more than days but until I can find out more, I’ll give it to you then,” Ruff said.

Losing Spezza, one of the Stars’ top forwards, likely won’t help the team as it tries to make a run at the playoffs. He ranks fourth on Dallas with 31 points and third on the Stars in points per-game with 0.69. Dallas is currently within striking distance of the Wild Card with 52 points – three back of the St. Louis Blues – but losing Spezza will make it tougher to make up ground.
