SUPER BULLPEN: With starting pitching options limited this winter, the Miami Marlins may turn their focus to building a “super bullpen,” according to FanRag Sports’ Jon Heyman.
That plan could entail pursuing free agent Kenley Jansen, who has notched 189 career saves with the Dodgers dating back to 2010. Jansen became the Dodgers full-time closer under Don Mattingly in 2012, so there’s familiarity. Where the issue is likely to arise is money, as Jansen is believed to be seeking a $100M contract. ROSTER*CHANGES?: One element still under consideration during the current collective bargaining talks is whether MLB rosters will be expanded from 25 to 26. New provisions may also limit teams to 28 active players on a given day once rosters expand in September. [Fox Sports]
SHAKE IT UP: The A’s announced changes to their ownership structure Thursday, revealing that managing partner/owner Lew Wolff will step down after 11 years. As part of the shake-up, majority owner John Fisher will assume his previous role as the team’s managing partner, team president Michael Crowley will become senior advisor to the ownership group, while Dave Kaval was hired as president.
We had a full report Thursday, including what this means for a potential new A’s stadium. [The Stew]
