ANGEL IN THE OUTFIELD: The Angels have agreed to a one-year, $4M contract with free-agent outfielder Ben Revere, according to ESPN.com’s Buster Olney. Incentives in the deal can take his earnings to $6.25M if he reaches an unannounced number of plate appearances. He’ll take the roster spot of first baseman Ji-Man Choi, who was designated for assignment on Friday.
Revere joins an outfield mix that already includes Mike Trout, Kole Calhoun and Cameron Maybin. Trout and Calhoun will play everyday in center and right field respectively, while Revere seems headed for a platoon with Maybin in left field. Revere struggled against all pitching last season, hitting just .217/.260/.300. For his career, Revere has actually fared better against left-handers (.297/.329/.348) than right-handers (.281/.316/.340). It’s still expected Maybin will face the majority of left-handed pitchers.
