The Vancouver Canucks had some fun in their season opener against the Calgary Flames, which was a welcome change from last season’s experiment in anguish under John Tortorella.
So it was only appropriate that the last goal in their 4-2 win over the Flames had a circus-like quality, as Henik Sedin controlled a bouncing puck, stickhandled through two defenders, hit the ice on his backside, slid towards the goal, kicked the puck and then whacked the puck home with his stick before crashing into the cage.
We’re not sure an empty netter can qualify as goal of the year, but it sure was fun…

Radim Vrbata also scored his first as a Canuck in the game.
