Sunday proved to be a day of professional footballers of all sorts kicking each other in the head. It happened in the NFL when the Pittsburgh Steelers' Antonio Brown plowed through Cleveland Browns punter Spencer Lanning by delivering a flying kick to his facemask. But Cruzeiro defender Miguel Samudio wasn't fortunate enough to be wearing a helmet when Fluminense midfielder Cicero decided to introduce a boot to his ear.
The incident occurred early in the match as Samudio went to head the ball as Cicero attempted an absurdly high kick, connecting with the Paraguayan's skull instead. Cicero was only shown a yellow card for the foul, but Samudio was unable to continue and had to be subbed off in the 17th minute. Cicero went on to score in the 23rd minute, putting Fluminense up 2-1 in a match that eventually ended in a 3-3 draw.
Naturally, Cicero's kick prompted one Brazilian football meme factory to invoke the image of an approving Pepe...
