Now that the Chicago Cubs have ended their 108-year championship drought, they’re finally enjoying the perks that go along with being a World Series champion.
As much of their office staff learned on Thursday, sometimes those perks can be quite delicious.
According to the Kansas City Star, when the Cubs staff arrived at work on Thursday, they were greeted by two dozen pizzas from Giordano’s Pizzeria courtesy of last year’s champions, the Kansas City Royals.

As San Francisco Giants beat writer Andrew Baggarly notes, this was a continuation of one of baseball’s newest and perhaps greatest traditions. It began with the Boston Red Sox in 2014, who bought Giants office staff pizza after their World Series victory. The Giants did the same for Kansas City last year. Now the Royals have paid it forward with a Chicago-style twist for the Cubs.
This leads to an important follow up question though. If the Cubs were to win it again next season, would they send themselves pizza? Would the tradition die right there? Or would the Royals be on the hook again?
That’s something for everybody to ponder heading into next season.
As for Friday, it was all*about celebrating the biggest moment in Cubs franchise history.
