Getting the call to the majors is a dream come true for many players. Given the level of talent in the bigs, it can also be incredibly intimidating.
Some rookies respond by showing nerves in their first taste of the big leagues. Los Angeles Angels rookie catcher Carlos Perez is not one of those players.*
With the game knotted 4-4 in the bottom of the ninth, Perez stepped in against Seattle Mariners pitcher Dominic Leone. On the second pitch of the at-bat, Perez clobbered an 81 mph slider out to left for a walk-off home run. That's quite the way to cap your major-league debut.
The hit also puts Perez is elite company.
Carlos Perez is the first major leaguer with a walk-off homer in his MLB debut since Miguel Cabrera did so for the Marlins on June, 20, 2003
— Angels (@Angels) May 6, 2015
While that was the biggest highlight from the 24-year-old's debut, it wasn't his only contribution. In his first at-bat, Perez singled on a 96 mph fastball for his first major-league hit. The rookie finished 2 for 4, with one run scored and one RBI.

That's one hell of a way to kick off your major-league career. While Perez didn't show any nerves during his debut, he might have some tomorrow if he tries to top this performance.
