St. Louis Cardinals rookie Stephen Piscotty left Monday night's game against the Pittsburgh Pirates on a cart after being involved in a gruesome outfield collision with teammate Peter Bourjos. It was a scary play, but by the end of the night, the news was good. All tests came back negative.
Here's the scene: Piscotty was playing left field and chased a flyball off the bat of Pittsburgh's Josh Harrison that was headed for the indented section of the PNC Park outfield in deep left-center field. There was an awkward hesitation on Piscotty's part as he appeared to be unsure if Bourjos could get there. Bourjos never stopped running and ended up making the sliding catch,*but in the process caught a diving Piscotty with a knee to the left side of his head.*
Bourjos and Cardinals right fielder Jason Heyward immediately*waved for medical help as it appeared Piscotty was knocked unconscious by the blow. He was tended on the field for several minutes before being placed on a stretcher and taken off the field by cart. He waved to the crowd as he left, signaling his injury might not as bad as it looked.
Soon after, the Cardinals announced Piscotty suffered a "head contusion" and would be taken to the hospital for futher exams. A little while after the game had ended (they won 3-0), the club announced good news about about Piscotty:
All test results conducted on Stephen Picotty at hospital were negative. He will be held overnight for observation

Piscotty, 24, has provided quite a spark to the Cardinals injury-riddled lineup in his rookie campaign. Since his call-up in July, he's batting .310/.365/.502 with seven home runs and 39 RBI over 62 games.
He's a guy Mike Matheny was expected to rely on quite a bit for as long as the Cardinals remain alive in the postseason. Right now though, the focus is obviously on his health and well being.
