In many ways, San Francisco Giants catcher Buster Posey is the*exactly the type of player the next generation of baseball players should emulate. His sweet swing, contact-oriented approach and excellent defense at a demanding position have probably made him the focus of a number of instructional videos shown to*players learning the game.
On the field, you want to look like*Buster Posey does.
Of course, baseball has a way of humbling even the very best of players. During Monday’s game against the Miami Marlins, Posey turned in a “highlight” that*should be burned and never shown to the next generation of baseball players.
The game can humble anyone. Even Buster Posey. (MLB.com Screenshot) With the game tied 7-7 in the 11th inning, Posey drew a walk to lead off the inning. With Posey on first, shortstop Brandon Crawford hit a line shot to center for a single.

Posey was hustling on the play, and decided to try to take third base on the hit. Center fielder Marcell Ozuna fielded the ball, and threw a strike to third. With the ball approaching fast, Posey had no choice but to slide.
His head-first attempt was … not pretty. Posey landed on his stomach awkwardly, failing to get his hands out and extended. As a result of the impact, his face and chin scrapped against the infield dirt and eventually ran right into third base.
It was one of the most ungraceful things we’ve seen from one of the best players in the majors. If there’s any upside, it’s that Posey was safe on the play. It didn’t look pretty, but it worked out!

Despite the result,*we’re guessing this is one of the few Posey “highlights” youth coaches won’t be showing to their players.
