The Milwaukee Brewers have announced plans for a second Bob Uecker statue to be unveiled at Miller Park this season. Only this time, the statue will come with a twist befitting of the man being honor.
The first statue, which was unveiled in September of 2012, is located outside the stadium on the home-plate plaza. A standard location for statues that stand outside MLB stadiums. The new statue, on the other hand, will actually be inside Miller Park. Not only that, it will be among the fans seated in the “Uecker seats” in section 422, where obstructed-view seats sell on game days for $1.
Uecker’s statue is literally getting the worst seat in the house, and it couldn’t be a more appropriate spot according to Uecker himself.
From MLB.com:
"I can't think of a better place to put this statue," said Uecker, who is entering his 44th season calling games for his hometown Brewers. "This will be great for fans and even better for pigeons. You might even be able to see a little part of the field."
The newest Uecker likeness was designed by Brian Maughan, the same artist who made the four statues outside Miller Park -- Hank Aaron, Allan H. "Bud" Selig, Robin Yount and Uecker. The new Uecker statue will be made of bronze, but unlike the others, will also have color effects.
The new statue and its location is a play on Uecker's memorable "I must be in the front row” Miller Lite ads in the early 80s where he always ended up in the nosebleed section or shut out all together. It all fit with Uecker’s shtick so well and the commercials took on a life of their own. In fact, to this day “Uecker seats” is pretty much the only acceptable phrase used to describe sitting in the least desirable location.
The phrase is iconic in pop culture, just as Uecker has reached iconic status in the state of Wisconsin, so it‘s fitting the Brewers are honoring their Hall of Fame broadcaster in this unique way.

The new statue is scheduled to be dedicated on the afternoon of Friday, April 25 before the Brewers play host to the Chicago Cubs. The Brewers will announce more details about the ceremony in the coming weeks.
