The Buffalo Bills’ revolving door at quarterback is about to close.
Bills quarterback E.J. Manuel has been medically cleared to play, and he will likely start against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday, according to the team’s website. Manuel has been out of the lineup since he sprained the LCL in his right knee in the Week 5 loss at Cleveland.
“It’s feeling a lot better,” Manuel told the team’s website reporter. “Been working out on it the past week and had a good workout (Sunday) before the game. It felt really good. It was good to get out there in the cold too to move around in that to see how it felt and reacted after, so it’s doing good.”
Manuel was asked if he would play against Pittsburgh, but said that decision was up to coach Doug Marrone.
However, Bills receiver Stevie Johnson may have spilled the beans on Monday.
Johnson was approached by media members to recap Buffalo’s 23-13 loss against the Kansas City Chiefs this past Sunday, and someone asked him Manuel’s return to practice last week. Johnson said he expects Manuel to play on Sunday.
“He just threw to us routes versus air,” Johnson told the team’s website reporter. “He didn’t throw in practice. We’ve got to take as much pressure off his legs because of the injury, but he said he’ll be ready Sunday and after that there are no excuses.”
Since Manuel’s injury, Buffalo has been forced to start Thad Lewis and Jeff Tuel. Lewis was inactive this past Sunday due to a rib injury, and Tuel completed 18-of-39 passes for 229 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions during the loss against Kansas City.

Manuel, a rookie, has thrown for 985 yards with five touchdowns, three interceptions and a 79.4 rating in five starts this season.
