How expensive is kiteboarding as a sport/hobby?

I've recently scheduled kiteboarding lessons in an attempt to find a new sport/hobby! As an avid snowboarder and skimboarder, I'm really looking forward to it. But, I'm curious as to how much money this sport may require if someone is to get seriously involved. Kite, board, harness system, handles, maintenance, repairs, etc. Your knowledge will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!
