Will this new setup play HD movies/Blu-ray top best high definition?

    I currently using
    Monitor - 19" ViewSonic VA902B 1280 x 1024
    with video card
ATI HD2600 PRO 512MB specs says its capable of 1080 graphic
    and a good cpu setup

i currently have no problem watching medium high quality HD video, like around 1280x1048 range videos.
im wondering if i decide to get a 28" HD widescreen monitor, will i be able to see the highest quality video graphics? im not a heavy gamer, i like watching movies and video clips and i chose to buy monitor instead coz lots of free HD videos available online like on stage6.com. and im getting a blu-ray drive soon.
