Do I need a HD DVD player to play normal DVD's on an HDTV?

We're upgrading our TV but weren't planning on buying a new DVD player.

you can use any its just a matter of quality.

Regular dvd players play regular dvds

Upconverting- plays regular dvds and upconverts the quality to a better quality. It is NOT hd

HD Players- Play hd movies and regular dvds

Blu ray- Plays blu ray and regular

Combos- Play hd, blu ray, and regular dvds
