The faltering economy is taking a toll on all of us, and in more ways than you might realize.
In a new poll about a third of respondents--34 percent--said that economic concerns had disturbed their sleep or kept them up at night.
Sixteen percent blamed worries about their personal finances for keeping them from sleeping, according to the poll from the National Sleep Foundation, while another 10 percent said their restlessness was caused by employment concerns. Another 8 percent chalked up their sleep issues to thinking about health care costs.
"It?s easy to understand why so many people are concerned over the economy and jobs, but sacrificing sleep is the wrong solution," David Cloud, CEO of the National Sleep Foundation, said in a statement. "Sleep is essential for productivity and alertness and is a vital sign for one?s overall health."
If you're one of the many Americans having trouble getting a good night's sleep, check out the Consumer Reports guide to getting some rest. Tops on the list: get some exercise during the day and don't eat right before you go to bed.

If you (and your doctor) think that medication is necessary to help reduce sleep issues, you can check out our ratings for sleeping pills.
