does bench pressing make you slower in the 100m and 200m sprints?

i just started just to look good and get fit. I started with 25 on each side, and i still am doing 8 to 15 for 3 sets, inculding other stuff. Anyways, if it makes you slower, how? or do it moderately?(Track season is going to start soon)

it won't slow you down as long as you keep up with your regular running workout. It is good to work upper body even if you are a sprinter. I threw the shot put and discus..So, I never was a runner.. But as a lineman in football, we worked on speed and sprints and that was more important than bench..But yes, definetly keep working on your sprint workouts as well as bench..

well, im a body builder and i have worked with many track/cross country runners. Lemme tell you what i think you should do based on what you have said. you seem to be interested in looking fit and also you seem to be alert with track. i suggest you go out and run more and lift less. trust me. what happens is that when you bench as you are doing, then your upperbody strength gets too overwhelming for ur lower body, especially ur knees. u might've noticed various professional wrestler wearing knee braces due to this. this will cause ur legs to tire too much, cause we all know muscle weighs much more than fat. try to balance it all out.

so take it easy man. i highly suggest toning down on the benching and working more on the running. but gradually take ur benching down. not too fast. slowly aight.
