what is the best way to get internet to a laptop without hooking to your desktop?

get a router to have a wireless internet connection and plug it into your modem
OR
plug an ethernet cable into you modem/router and into your laptop (make sure its long enough lol)

Simple.. Buy a WIRELESS router.. I have a Netgear one.

Different routers do the job faster and also depending on wher u are u may need a ADSL. You can find that out easily by asking ur internet provider.

Next you need to make you laptop wireless(if it isnt already)

All you need to do is buy a wireless adapter(may come free wih router).

A wireless router. I prefer the Linksys routers just because I have had the best experience with them, but you must have a Broadband (High Speed Internet) Connection to use a wireless router. It will wirelessly provide internet to your laptop that way you don't have to run an ethernet cable to it. And can even use your laptop outside. Good Luck!!

i think tyler is right. use a wireless router. let me give you some more optoins

1. use a wireless router but dont forget to make the wireless connection password protected.
2. if are not into downloading stuff then use a mobile phone that connects to net. connect your mobile to your laptop and here you go. Let me share my experience here. I use a Nokia N 73. I got the net activated on it. Here you have two things which the customer care of the service provider will ask otherwise u tell him. a) do u want to use net on your mobile b) do u want to connect your laptop to your mobile and run net on your laptop. tell him the second option. the service provider will send you some setting which u will have to save on your mobile. and here u go. cheap and best and amazing mobility. open your laptop, connect it to mobile via a cable and run net anywhere on earth.
