You know how next to the AC vents theres a knob which either allows the vents to let air out or if the knobs are turned downward the air wont come out, even if the AC is on. Whats the point of this? Should i always leave the knobs closed unless i have the AC on?

The point is that you can have one vent open and the other closed. Maybe you want air and your passenger doesn't...
Ever thought about this scenario?

lol well in my truck even when the fan knob is turned fully off, air stll comes out, so ya i use the things to cover the holes, so its just a preffrance thing i guess, or mabey its for neat freaks who dont want dust up there lol

That's completely up to you. It doesn't matter, just do what makes you comfortable. Having the vents closed while having the air off doesn't effect anything.

It simply allows passengers to control their air without turning it off completely on your side as well(Or vice versa).

they are basically so that one person can have theres open on them, while you can close yours if you are cold...you can either leave it open or closed, it doesnt matter. If one is closed, more will just come out the other one.

I don't understand your question? The point of those knobs is if you don't want air blowing on you directly.

if you mean a shutter, it lets you manually change the amount of air coming through. my opnion the point of it is if someone wants to jack the ac high but some other person doesnt want it blowing on them they can turn it down. If its just you in the car and you dont want it its pointless to have it on

it serves a twofold purpose. first, in the heat of the summer you may desire more cold air onto your upper torso therefore you shut the passenger side off. the second is that the passenger may want a warmer setting or cooler setting than the driver thereby allowing for more control of the system.

The point is to help direct air flow where it's most needed.

On a blazing hot day, if you are driving alone, do you need cool air blowing onto the empty passenger seat? So instead, close off those 1 or 2 vents, and increase the cold air blowing on you.

Or if 2 people are in the car, but they have different tolerances to the cold air blowing on them, one can open the vents all the way, while the other reduces or cuts off the air flow.
