Help with Toshiba Satellite laptop recovery please urgently?

Hi I am in a bit of a mess here. Got a Toshiba Satellite laptop and created the 2 recovery DVD's ok. I have just gone to do a full recovery and dvd 1 loaded ok. Asked for next dvd, put it in and nothing but a black screen and laptop frozen. I tried cleaning the disc and rebooting but I just get a black screen with ctrl alt del to reboot! I have done this twice but still get the same thing. I know there was also a recovery on the data drive but can I still access this? If so how? Really panicking here. It is Windows Vista system. I think the 1st dvd has formated the hdd so I don't know what I can do.

I know it came with a recovery partition. Can I access that or boot to it?
