I think his decision to end slavery was a decision to end the civil war....giving them freedom eliminated a reason to fight....giving freedom to slaves caused slaves to turn and fight against the south....I don't believe it was done for humanitarian reasons, ...just to solve the civil war.....the civil war was created by fighting for Rights.....giving rights ended it.....does this answer your question?..if not then did Lincoln freeing his own slave mean anything?....

He was a racist. He said the N word often and my history teacher said that he was for slavery. He just wanted to keep the Union intact.
