why do blu ray movies occupy only a portion of the screen?

I have a hd projection system onto a 124" wall mounted screen. The blue ray player being used is the ps3 console which projects regular wide screen movies over the whole screen. Why do the blu ray movies which are suppose to be the latest in technology just occupy a portion of the screen?

either you bought the wrong format of bluray OR you have to reconfigure the settings of ur bluray that happened when we first got ours my dad did something 2 it idk wat it was tho

It is the formatting already in place on the Blu-ray disc. U just have to flip through the settings on the projector to project in widescreen, full screen, zoom etc..
