Id like advice about mobile internet please?

3mobile are offering various pay as you go packages for about £100, you buy a gadget a bit like a memory stick which plugs into a USB port and apparently away you go - are they are worth it. for example what is a sufficient 'speed' for me, I am a light internet user, mainly for surfuing, nothing hectic, but would like iTunes. Id rather not pay rental etc as I dont use it often. Do you need a phone port/line? Advice please.

The 3 dongles are SIM-reliant and therefore equivalent to a dial up connection. No phone line needed. You won't be able to watch YouTube videos as the connection is not fast enough (the videos will keep stopping and starting)

You do not need a phone or landline and the 3G modem will work anywhere there is a mobile phone signal.

The speed is ok but not great. It connects at around 480kbps which is 10 times faster than dial-up. For websurfing or email it is fine, but I wouldn't want to use iTunes over it. The speed is also affected by the cell phone coverage and if the signal strength drops too low, then the modem will drop back from 3G to GSM speed which is 5kbps and very slow.

You can do the same thing with some mobile phones. Most Sony Erricson phones can be connected your PC and use to access the web at the same speed as those USB devices.
