There is a puddle of golden liquid under the front left side of my engine, almost on top of the wheel. I was wondering if anyone could tell me what that could possibly be from.

Yeah geez that does sound like brake fluid. Crank it up and pump the brakes. If they fail to get stiff you've got a leak. Even if they don't, test the car out and be prepared to stop with the emergency brake if your brakes go out (while testing, don't drive if the brakes are failing!).
If this is a VW or Audi, you have a trans gasket or seal leak. Their trans fluid is gold in color. If this is a different car, I don't know what to tell you. What kind, year make, model is this???
