To "Darren S": The Emancipation Proclamation only declared freedom for slave in the Confederate States, which the Union had no control over. It also didn't free any slaves of the border states.

Well first off Abraham Lincoln is remembered for his vital role as the leader in preserving the Union during the Civil War and beginning the process (Emancipation Proclamation) that led to the end of slavery in the United States.

    Also...
President Lincoln gave his famous Gettysburg Address in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania

He was the commander of chief during the civil war, and becoming president and being devoted to his family.

The greatest accomplishment of President Lincoln would be the 13th Amendment, which abolished slavery at every level. I believe this single act alone is one of the greatest acts in our history. Truly a step toward in making one of Americas famous quotes such as: All men are created equal a factual statement.
