Okay, I have a '87 BMW 325. Good condition. Had a oil change less than a year ago, i believe. I just bought the car a few months ago. And everything sounds great. A week ago I noticed the engine was making a clicking sound. I knew what that sound meant so i ran to the store and without knowing what kind of oil to put in the car I just grabbed the cheapest store brand which was Safeway 10w40. Once i added the 1st quart, it began to smoke a little and it stunk the car for about 10 minutes. And after about a few more hours driving i realized the clicking sound was still there, so i went to the store today and bought two more qaurts of 10w40 and added it. The engine is STILL doing the clicking sound. Im wondering if I'm not putting the oil in right, or the right kind of oil. The panel doesn't say to check the engine oil at all. However, when i placed the first quart in, it turned off. Any suggestions? Will the clicking sound go away? If not, what should I do?
