Cookies are small text files which websites put on your computer so they can remember you when you come back. When you type in yahoo.com, Yahoo's computers have no idea who "you" are. That's where cookies come in. If Yahoo has set a cookie on your computer, they can put some information in it which your computer will send to them so they can tell who you are.
