I've come across this many times and ended up formatting my cell all the time. Now I want to search for the solution other than formatting.
Whenever a new message comes, it's entry is added to "log" but nothing is displayed either in the main screen or the inbox, until i restart the mobile. then all the pending messages are displayed.
