Religion has only brought me pain, and suffering...why should I believe?

Religion has brought me psychological problems, pain, suffering. I was popular before I knew religion, now I'm anti-social (choose your friends wisely they told me, now I have no close friends); I had a bunch of girlfriends before I knew religion, now I can't find a girl to go out with me; I wasn't afraid of much before religion, now I have no confidence, afraid, self-conscious, worry too much to be an "example" for others...granted religion has brought good qualities that usually goes unnoticed, but has not helped me in my own self-image- actually has brought me down. Why believe?
