recession today (politics)? What are the differences and the similarities between the Great Depression and the recession today?(politics and the government)

BHO is moving faster and spending more than FDR ever dreamed of. So, apparently, socialism is the change we can believe in. God help us!

Well a depression is a severe economic downturn. A recession is just negative growth in the economy for two consecutive quarters.

One big difference is, that today, we've learned from our big mistake in 1929, where the economy pulled all the money out of the system. This had very bad consequences. Because banks need liquid money. That thing made the great depression even worse.
Today we know, that this was a bad thing and we are trying to do the opposite. This is why Obama is trying to give all this billions of dollars out to the country and the economy. He can't fix the recession, but with such actions, he can lessen the recession.
