Affliction fight $1.5 million base..? .. am I missing something concerning the rationale by which Affliction decided to pay Arlovski 14 times as much as he was getting from his last employer?

You aren't missing anything. Affliction however is missing a brain. Gotta admire them though for throwing away all of their t-shirt money.
