what about them forcing themselves in court room, state offices and schools that are paid for with tax money from all

    It was said

"we can best serve all people, by catering to none."

meaning the only way to be fair to all people is show no preference to any one group of people.

sometime in the mid 50's we lost sight of that

peer presure and bullies are the largest product of the christian faith.

just jump on over to the religion section and have a read...you'll see it clear as day.

Andrew seems to think NOBODY had laws on murder before the bible?!?...egypt, Incas, Mayans, Greeks, Norse....all had laws on murder and none of them had the bible....this guy needs a history lesson, and a least 2 active brain cells.

Most of the "laws" we have today where in place in many different places long before religion.

What are some rights that have been taken away based on religion?

Besides gay rights does any one know any other rights that have been taken away from people based on people's beliefs.

My name is Yuridia Espericueta a senior in high school and for our second semester we weill be presenting an injustice to our school and to the community. Its basically our senior thesis. But before we begin with it i have to write a letter to the staff telling them my injustice I have chosen the injustice of religious people oppressing rights of people based on religious beliefs. Basically the separation state and religion. But I need some facts to put in my letter besides prop 8 and the slavery does anyone know anymore facts that can help me out. Its a very complicated topic but I'm interested what are some rights that have been taken away.

Laws to limit a woman's right to chose are based on religious principles.

Laws limiting access to birth control are also based on religious principles.

This past election - Arkansas passed a law that gay/lesbian's can't be foster parents or adopt. http://www.southernstudies.org/2009/01/aclu-lawsuit-to-challenge-arkansas-gay-adoption-ban.html

South Carolina currently has a law suit going regarding a religous license plate. There are some in the legislature who want to have an "I believe" plate with a cross on it made available. However, those same legisators have also said they would not do a plate for non-christians/other religions. A law suit has been filed under seperation of church and state to prevent the plate. http://law.suite101.com/article.cfm/south_carolina_and_i_believe_license_plates

Here's where a 5 yo child was punished for wearing his hair in accordance with his relgious beliefs. http://www.aclu.org/religion/schools/37022prs20081002.html

You may find examples on the alcu website. http://www.aclu.org/index.html

You want me to tell you how to bash religion? Sounds like you have pre-conceived notions, and are looking for justification.

Rights are not taken away by religion, but by people. Marriage is a religious term, co-opted by the state. Gays never had any rights to marry, but do have civil union claims.

Get off the high horse of anti-church bigotry.

But to answer your question, these are the things you may no do, thanks to religion:

    1. Murder
    2. Kidnap
    3. Steal or cheat
    4. Lie
    5. Give false testimony
    6. Sleep with your sister (or brother, in your case)
    among others

The right to murder someone? The laws about murder are based in the Bible. Thou shalt not kill.
