on the engine of a GMC Sonoma? I have a 93 GMC Sonoma pick-up with a 2.8 V 6 engine. I had to remove the distributor to replace the rubber O ring due to a bad oil leak. Taking the hold down clamp off was a real nightmare, Working blind. Could not see the bolt but finally managed to get it out. Replaced the O ring and reset the distributor but now I can't. get the hold down clamp and bolt back in. I worked for over an hour but each time I would either dop the bolt or knock the clamp off the back of the block. Very frustrating! Can anybody tell me an easy way to do it?

I don't think there is an easy way. Try laying on top of the engine using a work mat or a piece of plywood to support you upper body. This position should give both hands free and some dexterity.

You can try taping the bolt to the clamp to position both together.

Good luck. I know how frustrating this can be.
