...Civil War was started not ? because of slavery, but because the Southern Colonies wanted to secede from the Union. Freeing the slaves became a focus way latter on like in 1863, the War started in 1861. He's so obsessed with Lincoln, give it a rest why don't you, you agree?
Yes he is obsessed with Lincoln, he's even getting sworn in on the same bible Lincoln used.
He and Lincoln don't hail from the same state. Obama was "born" in Hawaii, even though, his birth records are unclear. He did grow up in Hawaii. He didn't move to Illinois until he was in his early 30's. He also lived in Indonesia, and was a Muslim for years

Lincoln wanted to send the slaves back to Africa. The north wanted all power from every state, that's y the south pulled from the union not because they wanted to keep the slaves. Slavery was the smallest issue. But that's not what public school teaches.

give it a rest, yeah, because it's all about Lincoln freeing the slaves and current pop-culture queen Obama wanting to align himself with one of the greatest POTUS' in history, Same with the BS of the media bowing and scraping while they compare him to JFK. Ugh!

He isn't obsessed. He and Lincoln hail from the same state....both were seen as 'newbies' to the political arena when they became Presidents, both were born into general poverty, but through hard work and determination, were able to achieve great success within their own lives. Lincoln hired people from both parties to help him advance this nation and wanted to be the President for ALL citizens. If you can't see why Obama would want to reference all of those ideals of Lincoln in his own administration, you haven't been paying much attention to what Obama has said over the past 5 years.

I would say using the same Bible as Lincoln is not necessarily an indicator that he's "obsessed" with him, unless you have other evidence. In case you're new to the United States, Lincoln is one of America's best-loved and most revered historical figures. Whether he's deserving of that or not is another discussion, but no one can deny that he is. There's nothing wrong with trying to use some of Lincoln's mojo, just like there's nothing wrong with Republicans trying to use Reagan's mojo. Groups have their heroes and they tend to utilize the power inherent in their symbolism and imagery.

He's nothing like Lincoln. For one thing, Lincoln was an honest Republican. That alone should get him off the Lincoln kick....I hope he doesn't dream of one day ending his Presidency like Lincoln.

Doesn't seem obsessed to me. He does like Lincoln, and so do I. But he talks mostly about other stuff, that has nothing to do with Lincoln, right?

EDIT: Oh yeah, the bible thing is what sticks in your craw. That's not a sign of obsession, no.

ummm....let me take you for a walk through history.
lincoln was a free soiler...meaning he approved the abolition of slavery...when he became president, the south seceded...starting with south carolina....the rest followed....

i dont see the problem of anyone admiring lincoln .

I don't think he is...do you know what obsession means...

Lincoln paved the way for freedom but he only declared the slaves free in states he had no control over....not in his area which shows he could care less about them...if he really cared about their freedom he would have given freedom to the ones in the north but he chose not to...New Jersey was the last state to give up it's slaves....

No one thinks that the civil war was started because of slaves...that would be ignorant....

So no, I do not agree....
