Took out old air filter and the new one doesn't look like the old one.

As long as it fits it should be fine.

Toyota corolla 03? I went to the auto parts store and they gave me my engine air filter for a 2003 corolla but when i went to change it it does not look exactly like the old one.

This one has a plastic spine going down the center and the other did not.

It still fit though. Is this wrong or can it be right?

Double check with the auto parts store or go on line with the make of your filter as many mfg. have a search site that will show you the correct filter for your car.
