You don't need to calibrate your TV for blue ray DVD's but it may give you a better picture. If you get a blue ray player and connect it to your TV it will probably work fine and the picture will be great. Calibration is expensive and it may give you a somewhat better picture but it is not needed for the new player to work with your TV.
