    I don't see this as being rude at all, especially with your hearing problem. Personally, I see this as your family & friends being rude. How is this commanding when you've stated "please"?

    It's not rude. People should ring the doorbell if there is one anyway - it's a protocol thing. If there's a doorbell, I don't understand why people would knock.

    If it resolves the issue (i.e. Hearing a caller) then it would be perfectly OK by me.
