Unlocking a T-Mobile Sidekick ID - Please Help?

I bought my daughter one for X-mas but the phone is pretty useless without the data plan. I made the mistake of buying the phone without researching it and didn't realize that the T-Mo's data plan was not only expensive but was recently raised considerably. I cannot justify spending $45 on my daughters' phone, or on any phone in the household for that matter. I would like to unlock it so that it can be activated (on pay per use) through a different carrier.
