better than a standard DVD player? I know it doesn't make sense to get a Blue-ray, but should I even bother with an upconverting player either?

Thanks in advance.
I know a Blue-Ray doesn't make sense at 42 inches, but my real question is does it make sense to get an upconverting player? Just wanted to clarify because I feel most people are focusing on whether to get Blu-Ray.

From what I have read, the difference between 720 and 1080 is not noticeable, just another way to charge more for the TV. So, Blue ray should look the same.

i have a 720p television and a dvd player i bought 8 years ago connected via an s-video cable and the picture is great.

yes, you need 1080p for blue ray to be worth it.

if your tv is less than 40 inches in size, the human eye generally cant tell the difference between 1080 and 720 p. the real benefit is on the larger televisions.
