How to connect to internet ?

My daughter and son-in-law who live next door gave me a new laptop for Christmas. They said I could just use their internet service since we are so close. Even though I get the message that I am connected to them (their code name comes up and says "connected to"), I still cannot get on the internet. Do I need a phone line? I don't have a phone in my house. How can I get internet?
I do not know what those initials mean

they said they are not password protected.

Take it over to them. If their network is secured, you may need to put some kind of password into your computer.

Be sure your laptop is setup to connect automatically (DHCP).

Also, be sure that you type in their WEP key for their wireless.

YOU SHOULD be able to use their service without getting a phone. Especially if there is a decent signal.

I get internet service from 10 miles away from a huge antenna, amplifier, and router.

If you need any details or have questions [email protected]
