Why is this messed up in Internet Explorer but not Firefox?

Okay... well I'm trying to make a new layout for my site and I randomly view it in internet explorer and the whole content is shifted over to the left. But in firefox it looks perfect!

If you wanna see what I'm talking about:

I'm trying to make it perfect before I post my new layout (which I haven't posted either) up on the 1st. HELP! ^_^
I'm using notepad to edit my site and a general FTP program. You can go View>>Page Source to see what I'm talking about.

It looks different because both browsers use different layout engines. The layout engine is the software that interprets the html and works out how to display it. In my opinion the layout engine in firefox (Gecko) is more reliable and accurate then the one in IE. However in the upcoming IE 8 the layout engine in it is meant to comply with more standards.
