New blackberry bold appears disconnected on my desktop! help?

So i just got the new blackberry bold for xmas, and i connected it to my computer to synchronize it, but its not working :( the BB desktop manager is already installed and i'm connecting my BB by using the USB cable that came in the box.

so I connect it and open the desktop manager but it appears as if no BB was connected. ATT help told me to click on "options" and then "Connection Options" and select USB and that it will automatically connect to my phone, but nope! its not working! :(
I've tried disconnecting and connecting..but nothing happens. I have windows xp and service pack 2, so i dont think thats the problem.

can someone please help?
