How is telling a child about religion the same as child-abuse?

How is telling a child that JESUS loves them so much he sacrificed his life so they would never have to be sick and could live in paradise forever, the same as beating them.
I had the beating, the belief that JESUS would punish him for every tear was how I survived it.
