I have seen programmes and am a fan of Mary Ellen Mark's work on homeless Americans. I am also aware that many families in the U.K. live in bed and breakfast and hostels. But I am wondering if there are any homeless families in the U.K. That live in cars or are sleeping 'on the street' Do you know of any areas in the U.K. that there are families who have nowhere to live except the street? Will the coming recession put more Brits in the position of the American people who live in cars?

Dr Science and reed, It is clearly a question and one I am curious about. Personally I have never witnessed, nor do I know of any families living on the street in Britain, but I wondered if they exist and I just don't know of the problem or if ALL British families have somewhere they can sleep. Why did you bother reponding without bothering to read this question properly?
Ronnie and grumpy: Thank you for your insight and taking the time to be informative, that article in the Telegraph is scary. I don't believe there are many people who are truly as secure as they believe themselves to be when they look down on the homeless as thought they themselves were a breed apart. I am an atheist but this analogy is the closet that comes to mind to put my belief succinctly: There but for the grace of God go I.
Thanks Arnold
