Why do people say Hummer h1 was the only real hummer-hummer h2, h3?

I know I might get bashed on for this, but I just don't know much about them and curious. Why does everyone say the only real Hummer was the H1. Hummer is technically a brand right but GM makes it, so Jeep is the brand and GM is the maker. The wouldn't Hummer H2 and H3's still be a Hummer? That is like saying a Jeep commander is not a Jeep because the Cherokee was the real one... the model is a (1), (2), (3) technically right? Let me know if Im off thats fine.

The H1 has been around for a longer period of time and it's more popular. The H1s are hard to see on the street. So that's why people say the H1s are original. H2s I like more than H3.

Well, the H1 was a BADASS truck. The H2's and especailly the H3's are for either rappers or soccer moms nowadays. The H1 got about 7-10 MPG, so I love that truck. The hummer H1 was the only vehicle that could drive through up to 36 feet of water without being damaged. With the h2 and h3, you will cry if you get it scratched or muddy. All in all, the H1 is a MAN'S car. Here are some pics:

-Oh no!, a drop of water got on my Hummer H3. Whatever do I do.

Probably because since the H1, the H2 & H3 have just had more and more problems.

It's like a really good movie (the 1st part) and then they try make more movies (part 2 & 3) and just ruin it.

    Same thing.

I heard not too long ago that one of the versions was pulled from production because of too many faults.

Just remember, people generally only remember the bad things about something, never the good.

The H1 was designed and built by AM General, the company that built the M998-series High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle, abbreviated HMMWV, pronounced "Humvee". This is the Humvee you see our Armed Forces use. The H1 was built on the same chassis as the military-spec Humvee.

The H2 and H3 were NOT created by AM General. They were built on GM's purely-civilian Tahoe/Yukon SUV platform and had nothing to do with the original H1/M998 Humvee.

That is why only the H1 was considered a "real" Hummer by purists.

You are right and wrong at the same time. Yes, they are all Hummers, but the H1 is not a Hummer. It is a HMMWV(Humvee), which is one of the best military trucks on the planet, if not the best.
Hummer is just a collection of modified Humvees, Tahoes, and Trailblazers.
The H1 is an amazing offroad vehicle. It may be slow, have loose steering, and weak brakes, but it can go almost anywhere. The other Hummers do not have that capability.
The H1 is purpose built, dedicated to being the most stable and capable offroad vehicle out there. The other hummers are built on SUVs that are meant for the road, which are not suited very well for anything guy carrying people. They do not have much of a capability besides that.
Hummer is not alone though. The new jeeps like the compass and patriot are not considered jeeps by most people.
Most jeeps are purpose built. The Wrangler, Cherokee, Grand Cherokee, and Commache were all purpose built, and were decent vehicles. The H-2 and H-3 are not exactly good vehicles, they perform poorly in nearly every way.
