can a male betta be placed with other fish ?

if yes what kind of fish can it be another male betta or does it need to be a female
 
Most of the time, yes. It mostly depends on the betta's temperament. Also, you'll need a larger aquarium. For a betta AND tankmates, I suggest nothing smaller then 10 gallons. There are also a few guidlines that you need to fallow.
1, if you have a male betta then you can't get any other bettas. Male or Female
2 no Gouramis. They're to closely related
3. no fancy guppies. Their bright colors and large fins are going to cause a problem
4. no fin nippers such as tiger barbs.


Some possible tankmates would include smaller schooling fish like neon tetras or cory catfish.
