what is a publicsphere and how has the intenet contributed to an informed public arena

One good example would be the issue of the birth certificate of Obama. Whether he is a natural born citizen or not- if we didn't have the internet we wouldn't even be aware of the issue since the media has made it such a point to not report on it.

An argument could be made it makes an disinformed public. When blogs are taken as legimate sources and crap that people make up can be put into print, it make you wonder if we are better off.

Beverly above me just proved my point.

It gives people greater access to a variety of sources. That's all.

I think the interent has actually led to a less informed public as anyone with a computer can spew whatever hogwash they wish without being held accountable for it like a proper news organization.
