Why do people try to convert others to their own religion?

Does it say in the bible, quaran, or other religous books that everyone must believe in the same thing?

I thought it was do unto others as you would have done unto you?
    la clandestina -

why does it matter if you have more people on your side? Its a religion not an army.

I would want the religious ignoranuses to guide me down the path of truth as well... (But noooooooo, they choose to poison my mind with lies).

Well the only religion that is constantly trying to change people are Jehovah's Witnesses. The rest are usually trying to keep family tradition kind of thing.

Its really annoying having them knock on your door!

It's all selfish, really. It seems that they only want to convert you so that they can gloat about it.

They get brownie points for converting others. Kind of like vampires, speaking of vampires...I LOVE TWILIGHT.

No seriously though, it's not that people try to convert others on purpose, but one thing leads to another in a conversation and before you know it, they're defending their own beliefs. Also because what you believe in (your political beliefs as well) say a lot about who you are as a person.
