I learned about not to gossips. But what does it really mean to gossips? Does gossips mean telling lies?

to gossip is to talk about other people behind their back.
If you have something to say about another person, make sure it is true and the other person will not be harmed by you saying it.
(harmed physically, emotionally or mentally)
