How should I ask this girl for a date?

There's this girl who was with not a real, close friend of mine, but I saw them on campus. I thought the girl (not my friend) was cute. How would I go about asking this girl out? The friend of the girl I want to ask out I do have as a facebook friend, but we don't really talk.
